Before you head out on your next big trip, make sure to plan ahead. How long is your journey? What stopping points will you make? Mapping out your entire trip (both to your destination and your return home) will alleviate any food restriction-induced anxiety. We recommend packing your GPS or downloading a navigation app like Google Maps, TripAdvisor or Waze to map out your route before you head out.

1. Plan your trip

Before you head out on your next big trip, make sure to plan ahead. How long is your journey? What stopping points will you make? Vegan Food Apps

2. Prepare with the help of apps

There really is an app for everything. Be prepared with packing and list-making apps such as Any.do and Packr. Additionally, plant-based travellers should download handy food apps including Vegan Maps, Happy Cow, and food scanner Vegan Pocket.

3. Pack with considered thinking

Packing is stressful enough as it is, regardless of incorporating specific dietary needs and preferences. It is, however, essential to have nutritious fibre-and protein-rich vegan or vegetarian food options at hand, to ensure you feel fuller for longer. Ideal snacks include lentil chips, protein bars, fresh fruit and veggies, and don’t forget your favourite dips and spreads for when you stop for quick meals – hummus, nut butters, salsa and vegan aioli or mayo are all flavourful, and nutritious, options.

4. Keep hydrated

Don’t skip the water. Give yourself the best chance of staying hydrated for your journey and purchase a cupholder friendly insulated bottle to keep your drinks at the perfect temperature on the journey. (To avoid too many unwanted bathroom breaks, sip to thirst, and reach for H2O first.) Other healthy beverage options include pre-made smoothies, bottled juices, vitamin water and electrolyte drinks.
